learning to laugh back original poetry print by mjr

learning to laugh back

like a shoebox of birthday cards
from the worst birthday you had
like a stolen car braced to burn
                          in the local park
some things aren't built to last
so be grateful to all of the storms
they teach us how to sail the path
be grateful for the scars
cuts and burns to skin and heart
they teach us how to live
and leave the past to pass
so when the ground catches your fall
it only means to put you back on track
because life laughs at us all
we must learn to laugh back
